For the maintenance of the patent national patent offices of the contracting states request\u00a0<u>renewal fees on a yearly basis<\/u>\u00a0(usually starting with the 3rd year after the filing of the application).<\/p>\n<p>Fees<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" src=\"https:\/\/bittner-patent.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/info-fees-300x232.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bittner-patent.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/info-fees-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/bittner-patent.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/info-fees.png 518w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<p>The fees increase year by year by about 10 to 20%.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<p>The patent owner can abandon the patent by not paying the fees.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<p>In the IT industry usual patent life time is around 10 to 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>The following table gives an overview of\u00a0<u style=\"color: #666666; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400;\">the cumulative fees<\/u>\u00a0for a selection of EPC contracting states with regards to a patent life time of 10, 12, 15 and 20 years, respectively. The numbers correspond to rounded Euro amounts. Exchange rate fluctuations for Non-Euro states as well as inflation effects are not taken into account (as of February 2012). There is no guarantee for the correctness of the data.<\/p>\n<h2>Translations<\/h2>\n<p>Under the London agreement some contracting states at least partially waived their translation requirements into the respective national languages and, therefore, low or no translation costs are to be expected for those states.
